Telling stories about the outdoors, meeting people who appreciate the wonders of nature...this has been the experience of Ron Schara for more than thirty years. His writings and observations capture the essence of the natural world. As his newspaper popularity grew in the Midwest, Ron began painting pictures with both words and video to share his love for the outdoors.
Now in its 11th year, Ron Schara's award-winning television magazine show Minnesota Bound delivers the heart and spirit of the outdoors into living rooms of TV viewers. His soft spoken but direct delivery and appealing on-camera presence has created a personality akin to some of America's favorite television feature journalists. He’s been called the Charles Kuralt of the outdoors. Ron has become a vital resource and champion for outdoor issues. His Emmy-award-winning TV show Minnesota Bound is seen on KARE-11 in the Twin Cities market as well as the Fargo, Duluth and Rochester markets. You can also catch Ron’s early Saturday morning radio show on WCCO (AM 830) at 5:30 a.m.
Ron’s storytelling has earned him a national following, too, on Outdoor Life Network's weekend morning outdoor lineup with his show Backroads with Ron & Raven.
As an award-winning outdoor columnist for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Ron continues to offer his unique take on the wilds and waters. He grew up in northeast Iowa's rugged bluff country and his love of the outdoors took him to Iowa State University where he majored in both journalism and fish & wildlife biology. Today, he contributes to the public forum on many environmental issues.
